Innovating Green Technology - Lebanon
The disparity in access to basic water and sanitation services between urban and rural areas is one of the major challenges facing the world today. In Lebanon, more than 4 million people suffer from water resource management problems, climate change and population. Every year infants die from diarrhoea caused by unsafe drinking water. In addition, the presence of carcinogenic pollutants and heavy metals in the water, soil, and food chain poses a significant threat to human health, which leads to food insecurity and unsafe drinking water. IGT’s innovative system assures having safe and clean drinking water, improves healthcare, and raises the living standard of vulnerable people and local communities. To achieve this, two primary processes are done: treating the water with adequate systems, and reusing RO reject water in fish farming powered by solar energy. These processes secure a suitable supply of safe drinking water while mitigating the effects of water scarcity on the environment and economy. An innovative approach that considers both environmental and social factors is necessary for sustainable and equitable access to safe drinking water.
