Desalination plants require a considerable amount of energy, usually in the form of fossil fuels. In addition, the amount of greenhouse gas emissions generated creates significant environmental challenges. TerGeo is developing an innovative technology for producing freshwater on a large scale through desalination with a technology that requires low maintenance with only the use of local, renewable energy sources. Water production is achieved through an innovative process for evaporation and desalination of seawater where a combination of solar-, tidal-, wave-, and wind energy are used. No electricity is produced, and no active components are used. With positioning- and vacuum energy a self-circulating siphon effect is achieved. The difference from other plants is that a mix of energy resources in construction where very little opex shall be needed. In other words, the TerGeo plant is envisaged to provide an environmentally friendly water plant, which year after year shall provide freshwater without any significant service and maintenance.
